WoofStock is back!!

Woofstock is coming back to Durham on September 22 and will once again feature the Skyhoundz Frisbee Competition.

Peruse the highlights of last years great event while standing by for updates on the upcoming WOOFSTOCK 2007.

There were a lot of fun and games and some incredible canines too!

10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. WoofStock Northgate Park

There were a lot of fun and games and some incredible canines last year!

Have a frisbee catching dog? We had the nationally known "Skyhoundz Frisbee Competition. Participation was free and open to anyone. Check out www.skyhoundz.com for complete information. Any dog can compete. Registration for the Skyhoundz event begins at 9:30 a.m. Be sure to get there early!!

Of course, no Woofstock would be complete without zany contests with GREAT PRIZES. From best tail wag, farthest biscuit toss, best trick, the memorable EGG RACE, the list goes on!

We are also delighted that P.O.P. N.C., a mobile spay/neuter clinic was offering a microchip and rabies clinic. All that was needed was a copy of your pet?s vaccination history, to take advantage of the rabies clinic.

We had a BARKING GOOD time at WOOFSTOCK 2006!

The annual event, in its third year, drew a crowd of 200 canine loving people and their 4-legged companions. This years ?canine carnival? included the nationally recognized Skyhoundz Frisbee Competition (www.skyhoundz.com). Canines wowed the crowds with their athleticism in this fun filled event. Ali Johnston of the Animal Protection Society of Orange County entertained the crowd with Osa, the extremely talented agility dog. The pace was picked up by the speed of the fly ball demonstration, and there was lots of laughs with the variety of contests, including the introduction of the ?limbo? contest.

Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue Incorporated is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to finding permanent homes for golden retrievers in need. Goldens come into the program from a wide variety of backgrounds. They may be the products of broken homes, found on the side of the road, dropped off at pounds or shelters or in any number of unsettling situations. They can be anywhere from 6 weeks old to 13+ years in age. The mission of NRGRR is to find these Goldens homes where they will be cherished and loved, treated as a welcome addition to your family. NRGRR is managed and run by volunteers whose efforts are dedicated to preserving the breed.

The adoption fee includes a physical exam by our vet, spay/neuter, shots/vaccines, a heartworm test and heartworm treatment if necessary.

Sorry - I wont' be able to make it to this week's events because I'm very sick.

Single Mingle is a monthly singles event at Whole Foods Cary. Rachel Herrick, the local artist who designed the hydrants for the Cary Dog Park, will host an "art class". It's based around the format she used for the dog park hydrants. The organizer of Single Mingle said that you may attend even if you are not single, but she would appreciate it if you can bring a single friend or two!

The class will be one hour in length.

Bring a photo of your pets; the photos should be of the animal straight on (as opposed to a profile picture). She teaches how to create a caricature from the photo.

No cost involved; all materials will be provided by Whole Foods.

Any questions, please contact Dayna Guzik at
daynaguzik@yahoo.com or 622-2657.

Thank you,
elane

Bundle up and join the NC division of the Puppy Mill Awareness Day Organization for a peaceful protest against The Pet Pad!!!!

Time: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

The Pet Pad (formerly known as PetLand, it was notorious for dealing with puppy mills), sells puppies they claim to purchase from "breeder" Sharon Munk or BJ & Guys Kennels. Sharon Munk is actually licensed with the USDA as a breeder and broker in Menlo, Kansas. She farms and brokers puppies!

In this group, I'm confident we all agree that puppies do not belong in pet stores or in the mills that produce
them. The holiday season is the perfect time to bring awareness to the pain and suffering of the puppy mill dogs. Perhaps what's more important, we need to spread the word on the sheer number loving dogs that are waiting to be adopted, that buying a puppy is essentially denying a homeless dog a home.

Please come out and help The Awareness Day Organization educate by handing out brochures
and getting our message out?NO MORE PUPPY MILLS!!!!

We need your help. The larger the crowd the louder our voice will be! Make a sign or just be present and make a statement that could save hundreds of lives this holiday season. We are the only voice that they have?.let's speak
for the victims.

If you can join us please RSVP to skalboum@earthlink.net
